During my test drive of the GS300 today, I noticed the ‘M’ position on
the transmission stick! Te salesman said this lets you change the mode
to manual transmission, and do the shifting from two buttons on the
steeering wheel. He mentioned also ALL GS 300′s comes like that. But,
I the bruchures show some models without that ‘M’ position.

I’d appreciate any advice on what the E-shift is? usefullness? how
reliable? do I have the option NOT to have it (in th 2003 GS300
model)?

Does any one know if it is possible to get an aftermarket sattelit
navigation unit for the 92 toyota soarer??

I really need to replace the valve cover gasket on my ES-300. There is an
oil leak from this. My concern is not the front cover, it is the back cover.
It sits under the intake manifold, which looks scary. Has anyone ever done
this and can you tell me if it can be done at home, any gotcha’s etc….

Just got a check engine, VSC, and Trac Off lights on while driving.
Stopped, turned engine off.  Restarted and check engine light stayed on, VSC
went out and trac went out, then after about 4 seconds, both came on again.
Book says "take to Lexus dealer".  Since it is Sunday…anyone have any
areas to check visually before I trod off tomorrow.  Mileage is 53000, this
was an early 2002 model with Nav.

A relative of mine has a 2003 GS-300 with the 3.0L engine.  Since it was
new, it tends to hesitate when accelerating from low speeds, resulting in a
couple close calls when attempting to merge into traffic.  The car’s been to
the dealer a couple times – the first time the dealer said that the
problem’s a normal characteristic with that car.  The second time, the
regional rep. accompanied the dealer on a test drive and said that the
problem is inherent in that year and model.  The regional rep. also
mentioned that her demo vehicle does the same thing, and a new vehicle on
the lot did the same thing also.  We picked-up on a rumor that the GS-400
had the same problem, but that a new chip solved the problem.

Is this indeed a common problem with that car?  Anyone know if/when a fix
will be available for it?  In its current condition, this car’s an accident
waiting to happen.

I am considering purchasing an SUV and I’ve test driven the Highlander
and the RX300. I wasn’t able to drive either vehicle at a speed where
the "helicopter" noise occurs during the test drives. However, I did
rent an RX300 for a couple of days, and even at 60 mph, when I opened
a rear window, I didn’t notice any uncomfortable noise. Is the noise
unique to the Highlander and not present in its similar brother, the
RX300?  I haven’t found anyone who rents Highlanders in the NYC area
or I would have rented the Highlander as well.

I’m not sure if I saw it here in this forum, but someone mentioned a while
back, that they replaced their flip-up day/night mirror on a 98 ES300 with
Toyota part # 732-33000. (That’s the auto-dimming mirror with compass for
00-01 Camry). They said it fit perfectly on the 98 windshield mount, etc.
Before I go and order one, I’d like to verify all that, but I can’t find the
post either here or at ClubLexus. Is that poster out there or does anyone
know if that information is correct?
