2001 LS430

I just purchased a 2001 LS430 with 34000 miles on it, delivered 5/01 which
is still in warranty until 5/05. The battery appears OK but did turn over
slow after having the key turned on for about 10 minutes playing with the
nav system without the motor running. Has anybody had any problems with
battery I think orginal? Any other thing I should be concerned with
waranty running out in 3 months? Any recommendations for extened warranty
befire the orginal runs out? Thanks

Tire Choice ?

Hi gang,

Looking for a tire recommendation for my 1998 ES 300. Live near Lake Ontario
(Western NY) so snow traction is always an issue.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, that is the common mode of operation throughout the auto
repair industry … it just hits you harder because of the high cost of
Lexus Parts.  If you can find a private shop specializing in servicing Lexus
(i.e., an EXPERIENCED Lexus mechanic that opens his own shop), you are going
to do better in most cases.  Actually, the first generation (90-92) have
been around long enough, that more common issues should be able to be
handled by most any competent shop.  The trouble is that Lexus specific
systems (i.e., the Trac system) may only be able to be serviced by those
well versed (or NOT in some cases) with the system.  That said, the 90-92
LS400 was probably the most "reliable" car ever built… that is NOT to
imply that they don’t need to be maintained.

90K Service

Anyone know what service parts are required for a 99 SC400 at 90K? It might
make a difference what I have to pay for the car. (it’s probably in the
owners manual, but I don’t have access to one)
Thanks

reliability of cars used cars in BMW 523,528 bracket

I "was" thinking of acquring a used BMW 523/528 SE of around 7 years old,
approx 100K miles.
This was becasue I have seen many of these in UK for around £5,000. But may
now be looking at a similiar Lexus GS300, Saab 9-5 2.3T or Audi A6 2.6.

I have in the past had a 7 yeard old 535SEi (Full Serivce History)/ 730 SEi
(part service history), and overall reliability was very dissapointing.
Engine’s were OK, but many other "expensive" parts required replacing., e.g
Switchable gbox on 7′series (Ouch), front psngr window coming off rails,
headlight circuit blew, central locking malfunction, over heating, petrol
guage faulty. Basically the only enjoyment I got out of these two cars was
the road presence (when they were’nt in the garage).

Many people recommended to me to only buy BMW new, or get a used japanese
car, (Lexus, Toyota et al).

I am a "BMW guy" at heart, but my mechanic says a £5000 BMW 5 series would
be a downgrade in reliability compared to my current 11 year old Rover 620
SLI
(with Honda engine, worth about £300, which I havent spent anything on for a
year).

I find this very worrying….

Comments anyone…?

social commentary, performance art or smut?

I just came across the website for a video called "hunting for bambi".
>From the looks of it, it seems to be a low-brow stab at the OLN/Playboy

genres of cable networks, but also comes across as a misogynist
celebration of gun culture. Does anybody have any insight or opinions
as to what else it could be construed as?

General maintenance and care

So, I finally got my RX 300 on the road.  There is still some stuff I’m
concerned about, but I’m taking it to a dealer to be looked at so the
prior owner can fix whatever.

My biggest concern is keeping it running and looking nice.  I wanted to
add some stuff to it and I see that some things shouldn’t be messed with,
so I’m just doing cosmetic changes.

Anyway, what kinds of things beyond the regularly scheduled maintenances
and oil changes and the like should I be concerned with?  As it’s a 99,
should I have any mechanical stuff replaced and such?  I really like this
and definitely want to keep it for a while.

Thanks.
