Wheel fitment

Hi all.
I would like to get some different wheels for my LS-400 1997 model, I now
have the chrome factory wheels and would like to have some 5 spoke type
wheels. I am interested in what kind of "take offs" from other manufacturers
will fit….(Ford, Chevy, Lexus, Nissan..etc) I know that they are 5 lug X
4.5 inch pattern, however I am not sure of offset and any other things that
may be a problem with fitment.
Can anyone here give me some advise?
TIA,
John

ES 330 Braking Power

Maybe I’m spoiled by incredible braking power of my 2003 Odyssey. But I’m
not too impressed with braking power of my new 2006 ES 330. Can ES owners
comment?

Telescoping steering wheel stuck full up

My 97 LS400 is running perfect.  But today Gemini gave it back after
service and the steering wheel is stuck full up.  It goes in and out, and
make a grinding noise if you insist on trying to put it down?  Any ideas?

Whenever I start the engine, some motor sound comes from the engine compartment

Well, I’ve owned a 06 ES for 10 days. So, forgive my lack of knowledge:-)
Whenever I start the engine, some motor sound comes from the engine
compartment. It sounds exactly the same as the sound that I hear when I
change driver seat adjustment memory (1 = wifey, 2 = me). Is it normal?

Any Lexus salespeople out there?

Are people catching on to the transmission lagginess in the ES and RX
models? If so, do you think this is driving any potential buyers away?

Lexus listens

Everyone:

I just wanted everyone to know that Lexus does listen.

I had a beef with Lexus over a statement made on the following web page:

http://www.lexus.com/cpo/benefits/stellar_coverage.html

Previously, the reference to a loaner car said "Complimentary, of course,
for any warrantable repair".  Well, I had a terrible rattle in the dash of
my 2005 ES330 and when I made arrangements for a service appointment and
asked for a loaner car, (I live over an hour away from the nearest Lexus
dealer)  my request was denied.  What I found out was that the free loaner
car is only available if the dealer determines that the time required to fix
the problem will exceed 8 hour time.  Although the dealer informed be that
it would not take 8 hours to fix my car they could not provide me with a
precise timeframe until they got into the repair.  The dealer did offer to
call Enterprise Car Rental on my behalf and arrange for a rental but I opted
to wait for my car and catch up on some reading instead of having to incur
the rental car fee.  After sitting in the Customer Lounge for 7 hours,
however, I wish I had opted for the rental instead but that was a choice I
made and wasn’t the dealer’s fault.

After settling down a bit (I was pretty steamed) I wrote a letter to the
President of Lexus Motors USA outlining where I felt their web site was
misleading and suggested that they needed to modify the wording on their web
page.  Quite honestly, I didn’t really expect to hear back from anyone but
to my surprise I receive a phone call from someone in the executive office
of Lexus who acknowledge my letter, told me that management had reviewed my
complaint and agreed with me that their web site was, in fact, misleading.
The representative that called also infomed me that this was an unfortunate
situation when good marketing comcepts runs into reality.  The rep went on
to say that I could be assured that their web developers were busy modifying
the web page as we were speaking and that bcause of my inconvience, they
were going to comp me for my 10,000 major scheduled servicing of my car.
Although I was satisfied just over the fact that a major corporation was
listening to a customer, I did appreciate them comping me on my next
regularly scheduled major maintenance.

Today, two days after the call,  I checked and sure enough the statement on
the web site now says "complimentary, of course, for any warrantable repair
exceeding 8 hours".  Evidently, Lexus does listen to their customers.

P.S.  They did get the rattle out too!

Power Antenna Problem

After replacing the antenna mast on my ’93 ES300 (the original was broken) I
drove around for about 3 months with a perfectly functioning antenna.
However, over the past couple of weeks, it’s started acting up again.  I
pulled the replacement antenna and purchased a second replacement only to
have it do the same thing.  What’s strange is that, both antennas (the
replacement and the second replacement, are in good shape, and there’s
nothing wrong with the teeth).  The antenna goes down fine, and goes all the
way up, but after it reaches the top, it starts making that terrible
grinding noise like the cable is broken, but of course it isn’t.  I thought
maybe it was something with the gears in the motor, but I checked them and
they’re fine.  I’ve taken the whole thing apart a couple of times now, and
it works fine for a while and then acts up again.  Tonight, I tore it all
apart, put it back together again only to have it work fine once and then
start doing it again.  I can’t figure out what the problem is.  Could it be
the relay circuitry on the motor unit?  I pulled out the board a little, and
it looks fine.

This one’s got me stumped…..

Tire Chains and AntiLock/Trac Error

Got my ‘ 90 LS400 snowbound in NC mountains last weekend.  Applied
(apparently) cheap snow chains which broke while attempting to drive
car out.   The broken chains were flopping about a good bit while
trying to back the car up a short icy hill.

Now the AntiLock and Trac error lights remain on during driving.
Thoughts?

RX300 – Clock resets to 1:00am

The clock in my 2000 RX300 has started to reset itself to 1:00am. This
usually happens after a clold night, or on really cold days when the car has
been sitting for a couple of hours.
Thinking it could be a dirty connection on the battery, I cleaned the posts
and the connectors, but still the problem happens.
The car cranks well, and the alternator is delivering full output.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
AZF
