Marker lamp

I can find plenty of turn signal lamps but not a sniff of the marker lamp.
This for a 1990 Lexus LS400.

The marker lamp is next to the turn signal lamp and it is a different shape
then the turn signal.

Any insight on where I can find one inexpensively online.?
thanks

2004 LS430 with no compass ?

Well, after playing with all the new features on my (new to me) 04 LS430, I
started explaining them all to my wife. She took the car out today, and when
she returned she asked me where the compass is. (On the 02 ES we traded in,
it was up on the mirror.) I told her I’d look it up in the owners manual.

In the owners manual, it points out that the compass is displayed in the
center of the dash between the tach and speedometer, by pressing the DISP2
button "when so equipped". Each press of the DISP2 button toggles the
display from "Outside Temp", to "Compass", to Blank.  Well, I suppose my LS
is not "so equipped", as I only get outside temp and Blank display with that
button. Another page of the manual has a description of "COMPASS (Vehicles
without Nav)".  I have Nav, so I guess "No compass for me".

I suppose they feel that if you have that street map display on, you need
nothing more than that.

So, all these fancy (albeit cool) buttons, features, and info displays, but
they chose not to give us a simple "N", "E", etc.

Go figure

Volume Button not working

I have Rx 300 2000. It was in the garage for a month. After amonth
when i tried to start it didn ot start at the first try but started
thereafter. Before leaving the car for a month Volume button was
working fine. Ever since I started the car after a month there is no
volume. When i try to increase / decrease the volume i do not see the
volume graphics. I can see the CD / Tape / Radio being turned on and
the systems working but no Volume.

Would anyone have any idea about the problem and how it could be
rectified?

2007 ES350 Question

My ES350 came with a lighter adapter and a what looks like a line in plug in
the center console. When I bought the car my dealer told me that there was
no IPod adapter installed. I have yet to try but if I plug a line in from my
IPod to the jack will I be able to get my IPod to play from my stereo??

I only have FM, AM, DISK and TAPE selections on my head unit.

What is this jack for??

Thanks,

J

2000 LS400 questions

Five months ago I bought a 2000 LS400 with 185,000 km (aprx. 115,000 miles)
on the odometer.

Here in Denmark Lexus is a rare automobile. We have two (2) authorized
dealers in the entire country!
I got the car from one of these dealers. I’m the second owner, and the same
dealer sold the car as new, and has carried out all service and maintenance
on the car since new.

It is well maintained, and basically drives wery well.

However. I have two issues with the car, that seems to puzzle the dealer:

1. It is very sensitive to cross winds.
Unlike any other car I’ve had (among others two Camry V6), this Lexus
requires a lot of steering in windy conditions.
Especially at higher speeds (80-100 mph). Having the wind in from the side,
and passing trucks can force the car to almost change lane.

The dealer have checked the car, but found nothing he says. The car is
equipped with air suspension, and I have noticed that it is not quite at
level when parked and looked at from behind (little over half an inch). The
local Toyota shop here in town had a look at it, and tried to adjust on of
the rear sensors, but it didn’t appear to change anything. They advised me
to take it to Lexus.
Perhaps this could have something to do with the wind sensivity?

I can se from other posts, that the air suspension on this car is not very
reliable. How would a problem with the air suspension show itself?

2. Transmission hesitation
My car has a problem with rolling starts, exactly as described in this quote
from another posting regarding an ES300:

Quote
I also notice it when doing the "California roll", or turning a hard corner
without ever coming to a complete stop.  The tranny gets confused, and I
either sit and wait for it to accelerate, or I have to press the pedal down
farther, causing the engine to race.
Unquote

On the internet I found out how to reset the transmission memory (disconnect
the negative terminal on the battery for 5 minutes), and this cures the
problem for the next few days. Then it returns gradually as the transmission
memory gets refilled with data – I guess.

The Lexus dealer here in Denmark had never heard of the problem, not on any
Lexus model, and he didn’t know of any software update for my car, or
whether it could be updated at all. He’s been ‘investigating’ the matter now
for 14 days.

With so few Lexus cars on the road here, I guess our mechanincs never build
up a deeper technical knowledge about these cars.

I would very much appreciate if anybody have information or comments to
these issues. I expect that this authorized ‘we-cannot-find-anything-wrong’
Lexus dealer will need a little pushing.

Thanks
Erik Rudbeck

LS460 Still No Stand-Alone Compass?

My father just bot an LS460 with NAV and is REALLY PYZZED that they
eliminated the stand alone compass that he had in his 2006 LS430 without
NAV. In my 2004 LS430 with NAV, it’s the same annoying thing….no stand
alone compass. Why didn’t they correct this from 2004 to 2007?

Lexus LS-400 / LS-430 Problems & Failures Follow-up

Hello,

I’d like to that everyone who took the time to answer my
questions.   I waited a few days to make sure that there wasn’t going to be
any additional posts.

A quick follow-up.   These are what I found to be the most common and or
expensive repairs.

AC Controller LCD leaking or not working

Air ride suspension

Instrument cluster circuit board failure

Power steering pump can fail causing the alternator to also fail because of
where it’s located, directly above the alternator.

Starter failure.  This can be an expensive fix because it’s in a difficult
location to easily remove and replace. Is hard to access and is located in
between the cylinder banks (thanks Ray-O.)

None of these failures would keep me from buying an older low mileage Lexus
except for one.  I definitely would not buy a car that had an air ride
suspension because of know problems and because they are expensive to
maintain.

I found some very interesting posts about the Instrument cluster gauges and
know problems and fixes.  I will share what I found out in a new post soon.

Thanks again everyone!

Jeb
