Slow acceleration
I drove my dad’s 1998 ES300 once when he was out of town.. My foot was
all the way down on the gas pedal, yet the car never went past 3000
rpm. The car felt no different than if I was barely pushing on the gas
pedal. I would almost venture to say that it might not have been
shifting gears.
My dad is back in town, and he said he was able to drive more than
80mph tonight, and thus he thinks it’s fine. He knows the car isn’t
driving like it did before, but he sounds like he’s being cheap about
taking the car in, or maybe he just doesn’t know the best way to
describe the problem to a mechanic.
Does anyone have any guesses as to why the car crawls as it gains
speed?
Not To Worry!!!
Hi Beverley,
Glad to hear that you are having a good time!!
Joanne intended to send you a "keeping in touch" message, nothing to
worry about. Everything is fine here!!

Parking sensors driving me bonkers
Hello everybody
I am the guy who crashed a GS300 . So I bought myself a second hand GS
430 to lift me up a bit.
The car came from an old gentleman, and it has parking and distance
sensors at the back, front and sides of the car. The thing is driving
me nuts. They must have been set at the maximum sensitive range,
because they do not stop beeping . They beep when I drive and there
is no one around ( I have already ruled out all other possible
sources from the car), they beep when I change lanes; when I pass or I
am passed by other cars, they go into an ear splittering frenzy when I
park it at a car park with cars to my left and right. I know the
sensible thing is to have them disconnected, but I am facing a 3.000
mile trip and I just do not have the time to check it into a dealer“s
shop until after that.
Any ideas?.
Thanks in advance.
And while we are at it, what is the legally minimum tread depth on
tyres in the US?
Same Code Error
Lexus 1999 ES300 128K Miles 4 Speed Overdrive.
I have been getting the P0700 code for shift solenoid "E" so I had it
replaced by an independent garage. They got the parts from Lexus and the
diagram showing which solenoid was "E" also.
It still gives the same error code and I just unhook the battery and reset
the computer and the two lights on the dash go out.
It seems like the lights for the error come on when I am on a hill and the
transmission downshifts or the converter unlocks.
Is there something else that is causing this error or any explanation why it
still throws the code after the part has been replaced? Remedy?

Definitive instructions for removing front headrests in Gen 1(F1) Lexus LS400
There is quite a bit of baloney floating out there on how you do this and
the service manual is only clear after you have done it or seen it done.
Here are the definitive instructions for removing the front seat headrests
on Gen 1 (F1) LS400′s equipped with power headrests.
First, run the headrest(s) all the way up with the power switch.
Next, run the seats forward all the way and climb in the back seat.
Note that at the bottom of each of the two front seat steel headrest pillars
(support posts) there is an about 1.5" wide (roughly square) plastic trim
piece with a hole for the steel pillar. There is one for each pillar.
With one hand, push down ( i.e., toward the earth for those of you who are
executives) on both of these trim pieces of one seat. You will feel a pair
of latches give. You don’t have to use a lot of effort, but there is a
little required. Then, still pushing down with the first hand, with the
other hand, lift the headrest and support pillars up (that’s away from the
earth for you executive types). Slides out easy.
To put the headrest back, just align with the two holes and push down gently
until you feel the mechanism lock.
Ridiculously easy…once you know how.

1999 RX300
I notice in my RX300 when the radio is tuned to AM station it makes a
strange sound, like not getting a signal, it increase and decrease as
I push and release the gas padel, it gets worst when I am under the
bridge, any ideas.

Where is The TCM
I was told to check the connections at the transmission control module to
possible correct a shift solenoid E problem.
Comes on now and then. I disconnect the battery and reset the computer and
the lights go off. Sometimes they stay off for a week or two and them other
times maybe a day. I’m tired of constantly resetting the computer to make
the lights go out. The car shifts fine and runs great.
I go through car washes and the bottom of the car is flushed with water as
part of the wash. It could be a connector problem so I’m willing to look at
that.
Now, where is the TCM located on a 1999 ES300?
I called the dealer and the parts person couldn’t find it in 20 minutes and
then put me on hold.
I’ll skip them.

Molecular nitrogen is inert. So, it may prevent unnecessary chemical
reaction inside the tires. However, its pressure and temperature can be
easily changed. I don’t see any benefit of using nitrogen in the tires.
