Can you get a free car wash at any dealer, or just the one you purchased
from?

Well, if you have an Infiniti, any dealer that you have the car
serviced at will provide a full interior/exterior car wash.
Unfortunately, I’m about to sell the 96 G20t that I’ve loved for the
last 7+ years :-(
for a 2003 Lexus RX300 :–)

It’s up to the dealer, but I think most will be accomodating, especially if you
get your car serviced there .. I get mine washed at a dealer I didn’t buy the
car from, but after seeing me in there all the time, they asked if I would put
on their dealership’s license plate frame. Small price to pay, especially
since I like their service better than the place I got it and I’d rather
advertise for them.

It varies from dealer to dealer. I’m not aware of any policy by a mfg to
have all their dealers do the same thing, although for an upper-end brand
(BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, MB, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo, etc.) it is pretty
much a given that most dealers do it.
Most pay no attention to where you bought the car. They’re happy to get
your service business regardless.

Just to clarify. I bought the car out of state. It only has 1800 miles on
it. I know that I can get it washed whenever it is serviced, but according
to my salesman, Lexus offers complimentary washes whenever. Just drive up
and ask for one. So I wouldn’t be getting service done each time. Although
I would be coming to them with warranty work, etc.

This certainly isn’t something done by Lexus on a national basis. Some
dealers may do it, but it would strictly be up to the individual dealer.
And this would probably be something that would only be extended to cars
purchased from that dealership.
If your salesman said that it overall Lexus policy, then they just were
doing what they tend to do: Say whatever they need to say to make a sale,
even if it is bald-face lie.

It IS up to each dealership, but if he services his car there, I’m sure they’d
extend the free car washes to him. After all, they want his service business,
and they want him to come to them for his next Lexus. Unlike many other
dealers, Lexus understands the value of repeat business.

According to the salesmen at both locations, (I shopped at both) you can
pull up anytime and ask for a free car wash. I assumed since both offered
it it must be a national thing, maybe it is regional.

Trust us, it is dealer-to-dealer thing. There is nothing that Lexus does
nationally or regionally with respect to policies on free car washes.

Actually, there’s a dealership near me that doesn’t offer free car washes at
all, unless you’re bringing it in for service. Then again, this is the same
dealer that lost 4 sales to myself and three friends in the past 2 years
because they wouldn’t budge on pricing that was rediculously higher than
market.
I don’t care how good business is, losing 4 out of 4 sales to a competing
dealer means they have to be doing something wrong.

Personally, I don’t view free car washes as a great reason for picking a
dealership. First, there is no assurance that they do a very good job of
washing your car or that they take any care with the paint. Second, I have
friends who work in dealerships and they tell me that car washes are a huge
source of minor fender benders and dents. Third, everything is a zero-sum
game and a "free" car wash isn’t free at all – you pay for it in higher
service costs.
It seems to be me that the key thing to look for in selecting a place to get
one’s car serviced is that they are honest, reliable, reasonably-priced, and
they fix it right the first time. I want them to be reasonably neat and
have today’s paper in the waiting room, but this over-the-top preoccupation
some people seem to have with marble bathrooms and cookies in the waiting
area is beyond me.

Actually, I find that they don’t do a very good job at all. If I want my car
to really look good I take it to a local hand wash. But it’s nice for just
keeping the car pretty clean.

Dealer washes are rub a bit, dry a bit and leave you with the final
mess of doing it right and re-cleaning all lthe windows.
Keep your car is clean and the tires at the right pressure on your own
and when you take it to a dealer for service tell them not to mess with
washing or fooling with the tire pressure. They never get either right.

PS: Make sure on oil changes they actually did it.

Most dealers don’t cheat on oil change, since it’s very easy to catch. It’s
stuff like tire rotation and tranny fluid change that they sometimes "forget."
I caught my Lexus dealer red-handed on skipping tire rotation.
Dealership techs are rushed by their management to make time, so sometimes
they have no choice but to skip certain items. For the same reason, it’s
better off NOT to get a free car wash at the dealer. They’ll leave lots of
hairline scratches and swirl marks on the finish. I call it the dirt
rotation.

Park Place Lexus in Plano (TX) does a pretty good job (wash) on mine…

Lexus seems to be careful about their image of having good service. I would
think a major glitch like the tire rotation thing would be worth reporting
to Lexus corporate US headquarters, and/or the regional service manager.
Scholfield Lexus here in Wichita uses a nice touchless wash system and vacs
the interior whenever I have my car serviced. They do a nice job.
