Hood gas struts

I need to replace the hood struts on my 92 LS. I keep reading that a strut
from Might-Lift can be modified to work, but I can’t find them anywhere. Any
advice?

    I replaced my 1990 LS400 struts with OEM replacements @ approx. $75/strut.
There is a right and left which are not interchangeable.  Each end of the
strut has the female part of a ball joint.  When you buy the replacement,
you also get both male ‘ball’ mounts which are NOT shipped inserted into the
female coupler ends.  These are one-shot deals … once they are inserted,
they with NEVER come out.  You CAN make a mistake and insert the top male
ball mount into the bottom female joint (and/or vice versa)… in which case
you just RENDERED the part useless … $75 out the window!!  I inserted the
male joints PRIOR to installation, but I suspect that you are SUPPOSE to
screw the male parts to the hood and engine compartment FIRST and THEN snap
    on the strut.

This whole setup looks to be very Lexus/Toyota specific, and I doubt you
could modify a replacement without very extensive/equipment/time/expense.

After ordering the replacements, I saw the garage use a little clamp on the
strut so that the hood would not shut on his head.  If I had to do it all
over again, I would just purchase one of these clamps.
