Opinions? Is it worth the upgrade from the Toyota 4-Runner? Also,
what are *most* people able to buy this SUV for, with or without NAV?
I currently have a 2001 IS 300, which I like, but I am finding I have
grown out of it.
Overall, I like the size of the SUV, engine, and new design, plus I
think ANY foreign vehicle has a much better interior than any American
vehicle … for instance, I looked at Ford Expedition and I swear I
was looking at the interior of an 88 Ford Bronco. I don’t think
they’ve changed the buttons or switches any in the last 15 years.
Appreciate any input this group may have to offer.
SN
Car and Driver just rated it #2 in a field of 8, ahead of the X5 and MDX,
and behind the Touareg. (IMHO, you’d have to be extremely brave to buy a
Touareg, an extremely complex SUV from a German mfg, in its first year of
production; I’d bet the Touareg/Cayenne will set a new high-water mark in
glitches for a first-year German new vehicle platform and that’s saying a
lot given the problems with the ML and X5.)
I assume the 4-Runner is an older model? The GX and new 4-Runner are
mechanically similar under the sheet metal and accessories. I’d certainly
shop both, as well as the MDX. Right now, I think the Honda Pilot
represents the best value, but it is not as good an off-road or tow vehicle
as the GX/4-Runner. I like the GX, but not the $50K price and to my eyes,
it looks overstyled. And at this price level, the LX470 is in sight and
this still represents the overall standard for the class.
