Car and Driver just rated it #2 in a field of 8, ahead of the X5 and MDX,
and behind the Touareg. (IMHO, you'd have to be extremely brave to buy a
Touareg, an extremely complex SUV from a German mfg, in its first year of
production; I'd bet the Touareg/Cayenne will set a new high-water mark in
glitches for a first-year German new vehicle platform and that's saying a
lot given the problems with the ML and X5.)

I assume the 4-Runner is an older model? The GX and new 4-Runner are
mechanically similar under the sheet metal and accessories. I'd certainly
shop both, as well as the MDX. Right now, I think the Honda Pilot
represents the best value, but it is not as good an off-road or tow vehicle
as the GX/4-Runner. I like the GX, but not the $50K price and to my eyes,
it looks overstyled. And at this price level, the LX470 is in sight and
this still represents the overall standard for the class.

- Mark
