Tire Question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:34 am

We have a 1993 Lexus ES300. Vehicle has 89,000 miles on it and runs
like a top.

We bought a new set of tires about 2 years ago… Michelin’s, but I
cannot recall the specific model. We haven’t been too pleased with
them.

Does anyone recall what the original factory tires were? I think they
may have been Dunlop’s, but don’t remember the model or type.

What tires would be recommended for our vehicle? We do approximately
25 miles per day freeway driving. The rest, basic city streets.
Climate is very hot.

Thanks,

B

Re: Location of outside temp sensor

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:34 am

This is a inherent weakness of all "differential" thermometers.
Differential meaning there are 2 temperature sensetive transistors.
The voltage diferential between them is the actual temperature. The
latest value is sotred in the computer and when you turn on the car
the new readings start to come in. The differential is very smal and
if the temperature has chenged significantly since the last reading it
might take up to 5 minutes for the velue to level off.

So don’t get the Z-rated tires when its time to replaced them. Nobody
really needs those extremely high-speed tires that they were designed
for anyways and they’re more expensive. As for 16" vs 17", I ‘d go for
the seventeen’s as they look cooler and fit the IS perfectly. The
sixteens looks too plain and small to be on a performace sedan.

The Bredeman Lexus in Glenview is excellent.  We didn’t buy our car (1995
ES300) there, but we get the same service as everyone else.

In fact, yesterday, my husband took our car in for the oil and filter
change/fluid check/car wash and the service manager *apologized* because
there weren’t any loaners left, even though the service only took about 90
minutes.

Change ATF and Differential fluid for every 15000 miles?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:32 am

Hi,

My dealer service list shows the above two items for
every 15000 miles.  However, the LS owner manual
says that ATF is added as needed and did not mention
the Differential oil service.  Also, dealer’s list
includes replacement of air filter at 15000 miles.
This also appears to be excessive.

By the way, can some one explain the "differential
oil"?  My impression is that this is a high grade
(visicosity)oil that lubricates the differential gears.
Do I understand it correctly?

I’d hear comments from LS lovers.  Thanks.

JJ

Vibration

Does anyone experience vibration / drumming (proably transmitted along the
prop shaft) only in 6th gear between 65 & 80 mph. with the IS 200.?

Maintenance

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:06 pm

I have a couple of questions on my 94 Lexus ES300.  There is about 110,000
miles on it now, and I need to do some maintenance on it.  The cv-axles need
replacing, the brakes need replacing, and the valve cover gasket needs
replacing.  The dealer said it would be about 2,000 to fix all of that.  A
thousand for the axles, 500 for the brakes and the gasket.  Other places
would do that for about half the price.  I know the service is good at the
dealer but they only give you a year warranty.  Other places give you a
lifetime warranty.
What would be the advantages/disadvantages of taking it to the dealer,
besides price?
What would be the advantages/disadvantages of taking it to the other places,
besides price?
